How to Verify a Cattery

A good breeder welcomes informed questions. This guide helps you check any cattery — including ours — before sending money.

01

See the actual kitten

Ask for a live video call showing the individual animal, not only pre-recorded clips or carefully selected photographs.

02

Compare the identity

Check the name, date of birth, breed and identifying documents against the individual agreement. Ask how the microchip is verified when applicable.

03

Read animal-linked health records

Ask what veterinary care and tests actually apply to this kitten or its parents. A test result is meaningful when linked to an animal, date and issuer.

04

Check registration claims

Ask to see the document supporting each claimed registry, club affiliation or pedigree. Different registrations are not interchangeable.

05

Confirm seller and payments

Use the official contact directory, obtain written terms and verify the recipient independently if bank details change unexpectedly.

06

Look beyond the breeder’s own website

Read independent public feedback and genuine stories about cats that have already moved to their families.

Warning signs are pressure to pay immediately, refusal to show the specific kitten live, unclear animal identity, conflicting payment details and promises of “100% guaranteed health”. One sign calls for questions, not automatic accusations.

Reservation, step by step

  1. Choose a kitten and confirm its current status.
  2. Meet that kitten by live video and review available evidence.
  3. Agree the exact kitten, destination, preparation and transport arrangements.
  4. Read the individual contract, including price, deposit and payment recipient.
  5. Check cancellation, refund or transfer conditions in writing before paying.
  6. Only then follow the confirmed reservation and handover instructions.

No universal deposit percentage, non-refundable rule or transfer to a future litter is promised on this page. The individual written agreement and applicable mandatory law govern each transaction. Proof of transfer alone does not confirm settled funds.
